Found in The Huntington Library Bookstore, I was immediately intrigued by Sarah Bilston’s ‘The Lost Orchid’.’ It tells the story of the Victorian Era’s Orchid Mania and the global hunt to discover, own, and ultimately, profit off of, rare flowers, at any cost. WATCH
Train Dreams, please, watch it. Not only is it absolutely visually beautiful - full of painterly compositions in succinct color palettes, it’s at once heartbreaking and inspiring. It’s a reminder to appreciate the little things, a meditation on the power of quietude, and urges you to seek a sense of simple wonder.

Ayeshia Gamiet’s Garden of Stars, shown at Jonathan Cooper during The Winter Show, is meticulously composed of handmade shell gold, palladium shell and indigo, on indigo stained hemp paper. I adore it’s contemporary take on elements of illuminated manuscripts, fantasy & folklore, and the natural world. And it’s just pretty.
